Audits and Compliance

We conduct environment, health and safety (EHS) audits at our ISO 14001- and OHSAS 18001-certified sites to assess compliance with our EHS policy, management system and legal requirements.

Each site undergoes regular audits at the following intervals:

  • Corporate-level audits of the EHS management system: Every two years by internally qualified auditors
  • ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 surveillance audits:
o Sites – every two years by independent, third-party auditors
o Corporate oversight – once per year by independent, third-party auditors
  • Site-level audits of EHS compliance with legal requirements: Every three years by independent, third-party auditors

We record all non-compliances and track them to ensure that corrective actions are implemented.

In 2010, we achieved our goal of zero EHS-related fines, violations or citations.

The fine in 2008 related to incomplete ground water treatment at the North Indian Bend Wash site in Scottsdale, Arizona. At the time of the incident, Motorola was involved in environmental remediation at the former manufacturing location together with a number of other companies. As soon as Motorola learned of the incident, the company informed the Environmental Protection Agency, investigated the cause and took steps to prevent future incidents. According to health experts at the EPA, the safety and health of area residents was never at risk. Motorola Solutions has taken responsibility for remediation at the site.
